Буква X английского алфавита по написанию полностью идентична Х в кириллице, однако звучание совсем разное. Эта разница и становится причиной недопонимания у начинающих учеников английского языка.
В этой статье мы разберем, как правильно произносить эту букву и что она из себя представляет.
X – двадцать четвертая по счету буква в алфавите, относится к согласным. Как уже упоминалось, заглавное, строчное и прописное написание ничем не отличается от русского варианта буквы.
Ее история началась как древнегреческая буква Хи, которая позже перешла в латинский алфавит, а теперь находится в английском. Интересен тот факт, что теперешнее произношение буквы имело совсем другое происхождение и имело написание [ ξ ].
Прослушать произношение:
Транскрипция: [ eks ] (то есть [ экс ]).
Правила чтения:
- Чаще всего, она произносится как [ ks].
Пример: слова exit (выход), box (коробка).
- В редких случаях, если ее окружают две гласные, а стоящая впереди – ударная, используется звук [ gz ].
Пример: example (пример).
